Thai basil

Ocimum basilicum

Also known as a sweet basil because of its sweet taste. It makes medium-sized, large, gree-violet leaves. The stems are dark purple and the flowers are light lilac color. It can be used fresh, in spice mixtures, in currys... It should be added to dishes at the end so it is not cooked with other ingredients.

We can sow basil throughout the year in pots or crates and keep them indoors. We plant or sow it outside when the danger for saline has passed. Basil likes warm and sunny places, except when they are young - the sun can burn them. Basil doen't need watering, except if there is drought. If the plant is in pots we water it moderately - the soil has to be damp, not wet. The plants are stronger when they grow individually.
