Chinese cabbage Granaat
Brassica pekinensis L.
Chinese cabbage Granaat makes high and closed loaf-like heads. The leaves are dark green and the heads are narrower and higher than Atsuko.
The most suitable time for sowing is the first week of August but we can also sow it from the end of July to the end of August. If we sow it too early, it will blossom.
Chinese cabbage does not do well if we make a seedling and then plant it. Therefore we sow it directly to a permanent place.
The heads are usually formed in November, but can also be harvested during the first frost as it tolerates temperatures to -5 °C. If the temperatures get lower, we must harvest it and store it in a cool place till consuption. We can also store Chinese cabbage in cold place, if we wrap individual heads in newspaper.
