French bean Marona
Phaseolus vulgaris
A very early variety that produces dark green pods 17-18cm long. The pods are very soft. It produces very quickly, which makes it suitable for late sowing and drought years.
Sow 3-5 grains together at 30 cm or 1 grain at 10 cm. The grains are brown in colour.
Low beans do not need support and are sown in rows. Ensure that there is enough space between the rows.
According to the sowing guide, harvest green beans on the day after flowering, . Harvesting them at this time encourages new flowering, so you will always have a new crop on the plant and the pods will remain soft for up to a week in the fridge. Harvesting the pods on the day of fruit, encourages the ripening of the grain, both on the plant and in the harvested pods. The pods then become hard and stringy within a few days and must be used up promptly, while the pods already set on the plant ripen quickly and no new flowers form. On leaf day, however, we advise against any harvesting or processing of beans at all, as this promotes the development of fungi, which later manifest themselves in the form of the disease.
