French bean Metro - spaghetti bean
Phaseolus vulgaris
A bean known for forming long, narrow (spaghetti-shaped) green pods 60-70 cm long. The pods should be harvested while they are still young and tender, otherwise they will become hard and stringy.
It can be used in the same way as normal green beans - boiled, stir-fried, in sauces, canned, etc.
Tall beans are planted against a support poles or a string/wire. More seeds can be placed on each support - the number depends on the strength of the support - up to 3 seeds can be placed on the string, and up to 6 seeds can be placed on the pole. Tall corn or tall sunflowers can also be used for support.
According to the sowing guide, harvest green beans on the day of flower. Harvesting them at this time encourages new flowering, so you will always have a new crop on the plant and the pods will remain soft for up to a week in the fridge. Harvesting the pods on the day of fruit, encourages the ripening of the grain, both on the plant and in the harvested pods. The pods then become hard and stringy within a few days and must be used up promptly, while the pods already set on the plant ripen quickly and no new flowers form. On leaf day, however, we advise against any harvesting or processing of beans at all, as this promotes the development of fungi, which later manifest themselves in the form of the disease.
